February 11, 2016

Call on your main man or girlfriend, best friend or best furry friend and cozy up with these romantic reads. With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, take a look at some young adult fiction that is centered around Valentine’s Day specifically, or are heavily influenced by themes of love and romance.

Along for the Ride-Sarah Dessen

Along for the Ride is a perfect read for Valentine’s Day. The novel follows the story of Auden, portrayed as the perfect daughter. While she has spent all of her teen years getting good grades and focusing on the future, she has never had time to be young and carefree. A summer at the beach staying with her father and stepmother may allow her the chance to see life as more than just good grades and getting into college.

Sweet Treats, Secret Crushes-Lisa Greenwald

A snow day falling on Valentine’s Day appears to make a bleak day for a group of seventh grade girls. But after making a batch of cookies and sharing them with tenants in their building, they discover more about the lives of the people around them, and about themselves. This novel is less about romance, and more about the love of friendship.

How They Met and other stories- David Leviathan

This collection of love stories explores the depths of emotion. Each story is told through the eyes of a teenager, all from different circumstances. It allows a look into all perspectives of love, and is a perfect read for Valentine’s Day.

Don’t have a valentine this year? Not to worry! Books make great friends on a quiet night.
